Hi! I’m Aditya Karkera, and I’m a member of the Class with the finest vision – 2020! I’m Indian, and was born in Mumbai, but raised in the Middle East – in Oman and in Qatar. I serve as the Student Government’s Director of Finance and the Chair of its Finance Committee, work with the business team of The Octant, am involved with the Investment Group, practice sword combat with the NUS Kendo Kai, and practice verbal combat with the debate society.
Why I Chose Yale-NUS
What popped out at me when I first experienced Yale-NUS was not what was there, but what was not there – and the incredibly unique and humbling opportunity to build it. The promise of a small community of individuals with a strong unity of purpose but stronger diversity of ideas was too good to turn down – which, coincidentally, is my attitude to further cups of Milo.
What I Love Most About Yale-NUS
The beautiful fact that this question cannot be answered with the same answer every day. As of today, what I love the most about the College is the intellectual camaraderie – the spirit of learning though teaching others and bouncing ideas off of one another in classrooms at 4 PM or butteries at 4 AM.
Best Moment I’ve Had at Yale-NUS
The best moments I’ve had at Yale-NUS are split between traversing through urban tree lines and forest skylines – from Hong Kong to Jakarta – and traversing through brilliant ideas with my suite-mates in conversations both deadly serious and drop-dead amusing. Both have been enriching experiences that I’m grateful for.
