Heyo, I am Sean from Singapore and an Urban Studies major at Yale-NUS. I dabble in different art forms and mediums – including photography, theatre, visual art and graphic design. I also published a book in my Sophomore year, but usually I just enjoy an early night’s rest.
Why I Chose Yale-NUS
I chose Yale-NUS because I wanted a place where I could learn and grow independently, while being close to home. The opportunities to travel the world, paired with an inclusive and diverse community, opened my mind and senses to new perspectives, ideas, sights, sounds, and tastes unfamiliar to me.
What I Love Most About Yale-NUS
I love that there’s a place for everyone in this college, regardless of where your interest lies in or your personality type. You’re always free to try out something different, continue doing things you’re good at, or start something totally new. You can hang out with friends at the buttery, or enjoy a quiet meal at the dining hall. With a strong support system in College, I am glad that I can be truly me.
Best Moment I’ve Had at Yale-NUS
In my Freshmen year, I founded (aside) – a repertory theatre company in Yale-NUS – with a group of like-minded peers and we put up the very first full-fledged musical in College, ‘Little Shop of Horrors’. Most of us did not have prior theatre experience, much less performing a musical. But we worked and played hard, and managed to put together a great performance in less than 2 months! It was really magical when everything came together on show day.
Random Fact about Yale-NUS
You can see the most beautiful sunsets in Singapore from the highest floor of every residential tower!
