Yale-NUS College is more than a school, it’s a foundation for your future. A Yale-NUS College liberal arts education will open the door to myriad opportunities. Ignite your passion for learning, and acquire the knowledge and skills you need to be a leader in your chosen field.

About Yale-NUS

Yale-NUS is Asia’s leading liberal arts college. Our curriculum is designed to prepare you for the global challenges of the 21st century. We emphasise broad-based multidisciplinary learning, while building a common foundation among all students in the arts, humanities, social sciences, natural and physical sciences, and mathematics. Students’ passions are further explored through a chosen major plus optional minor.

Our four-year, fully residential experience, immerses students in a stimulating intellectual setting. It is characterised by small classes and close interaction among students and faculty from around the world. A strong co-curricular programme ensures you develop the skills necessary to solve complex problems. You will also thrive in diverse environments, and be able to use your experiences and perspectives as an effective leader.

Exceptional Curriculum

The curriculum at Yale-NUS is designed to ignite a passion for learning, and to allow students to flourish in virtually any field. These three keystones form a complete Yale-NUS education: Common Curriculum, Major and Electives.

Common Curriculum

The Common Curriculum is anything but common. It serves as a cornerstone of the Yale-NUS College academic experience, with classes that are designed to broaden horizons and highlight interdisciplinary thought.

Majors

After exploring the breadth and diversity of the Common Curriculum, you'll be better poised to hone in on your specific areas of academic interest. With close advice from professors and advisors, students will select one of 14 majors at the end of their second year at Yale-NUS.

Learn More

Minors

Should you want to explore a different discipline, all 14 majors are also available as minors as well. On top of that, students have two new options: Chinese Studies and Global Antiquity.

Learn More

Electives

Delve deeper into a topic of interest. From Dante and genetics to music theory, there is a wide range of electives available for the curious mind. Electives are often refreshed to give students more options.

Student Experience

A Yale-NUS education integrates science, humanities, social sciences and your chosen major. You will first explore a set of multidisciplinary courses known as the Common Curriculum. You will then choose a major and several electives to complete your learning journey.

Concurrent Degree Programmes

Students interested in the fields of public health, public policy or the environment, have the option of pursuing concurrent degree programmes, alongside their liberal arts education. These five-year programmes, partnering with top institutions in their respective fields, will equip students with the right knowledge and skills to excel in their chosen fields of interest.

Special Programmes

Students interested in pursuing a career in law, or medicine, can apply for one of Yale-NUS's special programmes: the Double Degree Programme with Law in collaboration with NUS Faculty of Law, or the Yale-NUS & Duke-NUS Liberal Arts and Medicine Pathway in collaboration with Duke-NUS Medical School.

Experiential Learning

Yale-NUS College’s Centre for International and Professional Experience (CIPE) offers an enriching array of local and global exposure, designed to enhance students’ academic learning. We create opportunities for students to broaden their perspectives and better understand different cultures and locales – abilities that are highly prized in this interconnected world.

Residential Community

Experience a global community within the classes, cafes, creative spaces and common rooms of our 3 Residential Colleges. The residential college experience is an integral portion of life in Yale-NUS. Students gain the opportunity to be part of a close-knit community – to enjoy broader experiences, engage in richer debates, and indulge in wider perspectives. These interactions and experiences fuel independence, leadership skills, and mental strength and agility – crucial characteristics for success.

The Kingfisher Experience

The College mascot is Halcyon the Kingfisher. The name Halcyon was derived from Greek mythology and is usually identified with a generic grouping of various kingfisher breeds. As the college mascot, it perfectly represents the ideals of the Yale-NUS community: youthfulness, creativity, curiosity and an adventurous spirit. These ideals encompass the entire Yale-NUS experience, including the four years spent in a residential college community. The Kingfisher experience creates supportive “nested communities” by combining academic, intellectual, social, cultural, athletic and artistic life.
